Develop Your Personal Style

“Don’t be into trends. Don’t make fashion own you, but you decide what you are, what you want to express by the way you dress and the way to live.” —Gianni Versace

Personal style can be a vehicle to let the world know who you are, it can be the way you express all that makes you unique or it can be the way that you fit in with your community. Whatever your personal style does for you, it is a powerful piece of your identity.

Create personal style

So how do you create a personal style that truly reflects who you are? Here are four things to consider when developing and creating your personal style

Know Who You Are

The first step in developing your personal style is knowing who you are and who you want to be. Get really clear. I suggest getting to a place where when you close your eyes you see your style. Once you can answer that question you can start finding people and outfits that align with your vision.

Explore And Try New Things

Pinterest, Instagram, Tic Tok, magazines, books . There are so many different ways to explore style and find the right one that works for you. Keep in mind, there are many different boxes and categories that you can fit into, but there is no reason you have to choose one and stick to it. Mix and match, take pieces of each category and put it together. A new style is waiting to be created, and maybe you are the one that is supposed to create it.

The internet is at your disposal and it can be a double-edged sword, but that can change really quickly with some focused efforts towards your goal. Put some focused effort into finding the people and clothes that inspire you and make you feel excited.

Invest In Staple Pieces

Making the most of your money is important as you go through the process of finding your personal style. And the best way to do that is to spend money where it will go the farthest. And that is in your staple pieces. Staple pieces are the pieces that you can mix and match and will create impact in every application. Here is a few staple items to consider:

  • White Button Down
  • Straight-leg jeans
  • Gold Hoop Earrings
  • Classic Black Slip Dress
  • White Sneakers
  • Relaxed fit black tee

Marie Kondo your wardrobe and get rid of anything that doesn’t spark joy. By paring down your wardrobe to only include the items that fit your personal style, fit properly and make you excited you will make following your personal style.

Follow these steps to create a personal style that speaks to who you are and everyone you encounter.
